Our Story

Sri Lanka used to be called Serendib, the island that gave the world the word serendipity, meaning finding something pleasant, valuable, or meaningful by chance. We named our shop for it because that's exactly how it feels every time we open a new shipment from home, and we hope it is exactly how you feel when you get your first shipment from us.

Dr. Vindya Boelke was nineteen when she left Sri Lanka for the United States to study medicine. She built a life here as an endocrinologist in Florida, but the island never left her. The hand-loomed batiks her family wore. The moonstones pulled from Meetiyagoda soil that her father sold in the gem trade. The hill-country tea her mother brewed every morning. The Ayurvedic remedies older than memory. Sri Lanka has always been quietly, brilliantly good at the things it makes, and she always knew the world deserved to meet them.

Troy, her husband, grew up chasing the kind of life he'd read about in adventure stories. Maps with hand-drawn arrows. Long expeditions. The romance of building something real, with real people, in places most of the world doesn't bother to look. An entrepreneur at heart and an Indiana Jones in spirit. When he met Vindya, he met the place that would become his second home.

We live in Tampa, Florida, with our two children, but we've been blessed with properties in Sri Lanka that we never wanted to keep to ourselves. Our mission is to put those resources to work for the island and its people: growing local businesses, supporting the artisan workshops we partner with, and creating real, lasting opportunities for the communities we love.

Everything in our shop is sourced directly from artisans we've sat with, farmers we've walked with, family-run workshops we've known for years. Ceylon tea.  Coffee. Cinnamon.  Batik textiles, Moonstone jewelry. Every piece has a story we can tell you, and a hand we can name.

We do this because we want the world to meet the Sri Lanka we know. And because every order helps those artisan communities grow stronger. That, for us, is the whole point.

We hope you fall in love with and enjoy these treasures as much as we have.
